Regional Patterning in Tail Vertebral Form and Function in Chameleons (Chamaeleo calyptratus)

چکیده

Synopsis Previous studies have focused on documenting shape variation in the caudal vertebrae chameleons underlying prehensile tail function. The goal of this study was to test impact function using multibody dynamic analysis (MDA). First, observations from dissections and 3D reconstructions generated contrast-enhanced µCT scans were used document regional arrangement muscles along antero-posterior axis. Using MDA, we then tested effect vertebral geometry biomechanical To address question, four different MDA models built: those with a distal either or proximal musculature, reciprocally musculature. For each muscle configuration, calculated force required group for balance an arbitrary external applied model. results showed that distal-type musculature are most efficient, regardless shape. Our also m. ilio-caudalis pars dorsalis is least efficient when combining highlighting importance length transverse process combination lever-moment arm onto which exerted. This initial model inevitably has number simplifications assumptions, however its purpose not predict vivo forces, but instead reveals muscular total can generate, thus providing better understanding significance variations grasping performance chameleons.

Characterization of Metarhizium viride Mycosis in Veiled Chameleons (Chamaeleo calyptratus), Panther Chameleons (Furcifer pardalis), and Inland Bearded Dragons (Pogona vitticeps).

Metarhizium viride has been associated with fatal systemic mycoses in chameleons, but subsequent data on mycoses caused by this fungus in reptiles are lacking. The aim of this investigation was therefore to obtain information on the presence of M. viride in reptiles kept as pets in captivity and its association with clinical signs and pathological findings as well as improvement of diagnostic p...

Nutritional metabolic bone disease in juvenile veiled chameleons (Chamaeleo calyptratus) and its prevention.

Nutritional metabolic bone disease (NMBD) is one of the most frequently observed pathological conditions in herpetoculture. To develop guidelines for NMBD prevention in growing veiled chameleons (Chamaeleo calyptratus), 56 hatchlings were divided into 6 groups [group UV, with UVB exposure; group No: no supplements; group CaAUV: with calcium (Ca), vitamin A, UVB; group CaA: with Ca, vitamin A; g...

Pathogenicity of the Chrysosporium anamorph of Nannizziopsis vriesii for veiled chameleons (Chamaeleo calyptratus).

Veiled chameleons (Chamaeleo calyptratus) were experimentally challenged with the fungus Chrysosporium anamorph of Nannizziopsis vriesii (CANV). Chameleons were exposed to conidia in their captive environment, or were inoculated by direct application of a conidial suspension inoculum on intact and on abraded skin. The CANV induced lesions in all experimental groups and was recovered from infect...

Disseminated mycosis in veiled chameleons (Chamaeleo calyptratus) caused by Chamaeleomyces granulomatis, a new fungus related to Paecilomyces viridis.

An outbreak of disseminated granulomatous disease occurred in a group of veiled chameleons (Chamaeleo calyptratus) in a zoo collection. An adult female and six offspring developed large granulomas in multiple organs and were euthanized. At necropsy, roughly spherical yellow-to-white nodules 1 to 3 mm in diameter were grossly visible in the liver and other organs. Histopathology revealed fungal ...

Eastern Mediterranean chameleons ( Chamaeleo chamaeleon , Ch . africanus ) are distinct

Based on mitochondrial 16S rRNA sequences, we suggest that the founder individuals of the introduced Greek population of Chamaeleo africanus originated in the Nile Delta region of Egypt. In Ch. chamaeleon, we discovered in the eastern Mediterranean new 16S rRNA haplotypes, being highly distinct from previously published western Mediterranean haplotypes. Eastern Mediterranean haplotypes were fou...
